Gemio promises that its smart band will light up your night. The Seattle company has launched a Kickstarter Crowdfunding Campaign to raise money for a wrist and shoulder band that has responsive lighting effects.
It’s yet another wearable aimed at the connected generation. The Gemio band can respond to your mood, change based on sound and movement, charge wirelessly, send light signals, and connect with your friends. It is designed to amp up your personal style at concerts, parties, and festivals.
The music video was directed by actress Brittany Snow.
The Gemio Band uses millions of colors of light, vibration, and special effects to connect friends offline (in real life), and bring a new level of style and interactivity to jewelry. Gemio has partnered with Love is Louder, a nonprofit movement created by The Jed Foundation and Snow, and will donate a portion of the proceeds raised through crowdfunding to combat issues like bullying, negative self-image, and discrimination.
“We started Love is Louder to help create communities where all of us feel connected and supported,” said Snow, in a statement. “We partnered with the Gemio because it uses technology to create those connections, and they’re a brand that’s also dedicated to building stronger communities for everyone.”
The Gemio Band uses an innovative panel of LED lights to create millions of colors and patterns that are controlled by the MyGemio smartphone app, movement, music, and touch. Light, color, and vibrations signal your friends that you’re nearby, that you want to meet up, that you’re thinking about them, and more. An app lets you assign meanings to specific colors for each friend.
The app also lets you join Channels for your favorite artist, team, or charity, so you’ll get light signals when your team scores, the DJ hits the stage, or it’s time to take action for a good cause. You can switch the tiles out to change the look.
“The best experiences in life are the ones where we’re in the moment, expressing our true selves and connecting with friends in a real way,” said Michael Bettua, CEO and cofounder of Gemio, in a statement. “Gemio technology was developed to enhance those experiences by easily adapting to our personal styles, immersing us in the moments we care about (sports, music, causes), and giving us the freedom to stay connected to our friends in those moments without staring at a phone screen.”
The bands start at $49, and swappable Tile sets start at $12. Product shipment is scheduled for November 2016.
