亚马逊买下的三个新域名分别是:amazonethereum.com、amazoncryptocurrency.com、amazoncryptocurrencies.com,另外这家公司也早已经持有amazonbitcoin.com网站域名。

Amazon Buys Three Cryptocurrency Domains

The world of cryptocurrency has been scorching hot recently, as is evident by the market cap of cryptocurrency hitting a new high of over $187 billion. Now it appears that the temperature is even going to get higher as CNBC is reporting that online behemoth Amazon has purchased three domain names related to cryptocurrency. The three new domains that Amazon picked up are: amazonethereum.com, amazoncryptocurrency.com, amazoncryptocurrencies.com. The corporation already owns the amazonbitcoin.com website.

The VP of Amazon Pay said last month that Amazon has no plans on accepting cryptocurrency as there’s been no real demand for it. This is probably true as the vast majority of online purchases are done via debit and credit cards, as well as payment processors like PayPal. Plus, there’s the volatility of cryptocurrency to consider. While individuals who hold Bitcoin love to see jumps of 10% or more, most businesses prefer a much more stable currency. As for the domain names secured by Amazon, it’s likely due to them just securing the sites to protect their brand name. Many companies snatch up sites using their name in order to keep others from using them. If, or when, Amazon moves into cryptocurrency. it’ll have a major impact. When a rumor that Amazon was going to accept Bitcoin popped up a few weeks ago, the price of Bitcoin jumped. (Source: Bitcoinist

TransferWise announces whopping $280M investment as early shareholders cash in

TransferWise, the international money transfer company and one of Europe's better-known unicorns, has announced $280 million in new investment. A source close to TransferWise, which has been profitable since early 2017, says that the new funding values the seven-year old company at $1.6 billion. The Series E round is led by asset management firm Old Mutual Global Investors, and Silicon Valley VC firm IVP. Also joining the round as new investors are Silicon Valley's Sapphire Ventures, Japanese company Mitsui & Co, Ltd, and U.S.-Japan venture firm World Innovation Lab. Existing backers Richard Branson, Andreessen Horowitz, and Baillie Gifford participated, too, bringing total raised by the company to $397 million.

A much earlier Sky News report says that the round also sees early company employees permitted sell a portion of their stake in TransferWise, including founders Taavet Hinrikus and Kristo Kaarmann. Separately, Seedcamp recently cashed in the rest of its stake in TransferWise as part of selling its first two funds to London VC Draper Esprit. The pre-seed and seed investor had already sold a minority of its holding in January. All of which would suggest that a potential TransferWise public offering is a long way off yet. Australia fintechs to get access to the UK's sandbox

Australian fintech companies looking to expand into Europe will now have access to the UK's fintech sandbox, which provides a regulatory environment where start-ups are exempt from some regulation, helping them lower costs and try new ideas. The details of the bridge are still being finalised with Chancellor Hammond. The UK is often cited as the world's leading fintech centre, the Treasurer said. Having access to the UK should help Australian companies trial their businesses elsewhere and learn from their British peers. (Source: AltFi)

Grab launches hawker center cashless payments as part of big play beyond transport

Ride-hailing firm Grab officially launched its in-store cashless payments solution today, marking its biggest move yet outside of the transportation segment. Grab said it’s aiming to make its GrabPay cashless payments platform available to 20,000 cash-based merchants operating in Singapore. It also said it plans to introduce the platform elsewhere in Southeast Asia during 2018. Merchants will not have to pay any transaction fees for their first six months using GrabPay. It is not yet clear what the cost will be after this period, but a Grab spokesperson said that pricing “will be evaluated in six months” and will be “low-cost”. For consumers, there will be no need for any additional downloads, as payments can be made through the existing Grab app. Users will also be able to earn GrabRewards loyalty points through their use of the ewallet. Grab said in a statement that GrabPay is “designed to be scalable and flexible to work with other QR code-based mobile payments systems in Singapore, thus facilitating a collective effort to move Singapore towards a cashless society.” (Source: Tech in Asia)

PCAOB's Franzel leans toward issuing blockchain and data analytics guidance

Speaking at the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy annual meeting in New York on Tuesday, PCAOB member Jeanette Franzel discussed the need for auditing firms and regulators to get a better grasp on blockchain and data analytics. Blockchain was originally developed for the virtual currency bitcoin as a way to securely and verifiably record transactions, but the distributed ledger technology has proven useful for other applications. Auditing firms see the potential for automating some of their processes and preserving an audit trail. The PCAOB is likely to start developing some guidance for firms on the use of data analytics and AI before it turns to blockchain technology. Meanwhile, the PCAOB inspection staff is already taking a look at what firms are planning to do on audits with the technology in terms of quality control. (Source: Accounting Today)
