Meet tech's newest unicorn.

ThoughtSpot, a Silicon Valley startup whose technology provides a Google-like search of corporate data, on Tuesday said it landed $145 million in new funding that puts the firm's private valuation over $1 billion.

"Our goal is to build a lasting company for generations," ThoughtSpot Chief Executive Ajeet Singh tells Barron's. He declined to specify the company's value but agreed it is now has unicorn status.

"Hopefully, this is our last private round," said Singh, who added that ThoughtSpot will pour the money into expanding research and development, sales and marketing, and hiring.

The investment, which comes from Sapphire Ventures, Lightspeed Ventures, Khosla Ventures, General Catalyst, and the Australian Government Future Fund, brings ThoughtSpot's total funding to $306 million since it was founded in 2012.

The Palo Alto, Calif.-based ThoughtSpot has lined up customers such as Capital One Financial (COF), Chevron (CVX) and diamond company De Beers who use its artificial intelligence technology to sift through complex corporate data and easily analyze it. ThoughtSpot "enables us to explore our large data sets easily, quickly and flexibly," David Heppenstall, chief information officer of De Beers, said in a statement.

ThoughtSpot's expanding customer base is reflected in its fourth-quarter revenue, which soared 180% from the year-ago period, primarily through growth in annual subscriptions that start at about $70,000 a year.

"It's a very small amount” compared with the $50 million to $100 million large corporations spend each year on data analytics technology, Singh says.

Next up? A likely initial public offering in the "next few years," Singh says. He and his investors are well aware of the successful IPOs of fellow enterprise companies DocuSign (DOCU) and Smartsheet (SMAR) in late April.
